چکیده

The ramifications of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP) networking with mobile hosts and wireless links in a hybrid wireless/IP environment are examined. Two issues that affect the performance of TCP/IP are mobility support in the network layer and coping with packet errors in TCP flow/congestion control in the transport layer. The operational features of agent-assisted, routeroriented and hybrid strategies for mobility support are identified and discussed. Packet errors due to transmission through the wireless channel and handover induced by user mobility can pose problem for the conventional TCP flow control in the transport layer. Strategies to cope with errors in packets that enter the TCP connection are described and discussed. q 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Mobility support across hybrid IP-based wireless environment: review of concepts, solutions, and related issues

The 4G or Beyond 3G wireless networks is consist of IP-based heterogeneous access networks from 3G cellular, WiFi, WiMAX to other emerging access technologies such as mesh networks. The key objective of designing the next generation wireless networks is to support of mobile subscribers. To support the mobile host in the hybrid wireless access technologies, many solutions based on network protoc...

A Macro Mobility and Multihoming Notification Protocol for Wireless Mesh Networks implementing Mobile IP and SHIM6

Wireless mesh networks provide cost-efficient means to ubiquitous Internet access. Large-scale wireless mesh networks may use multiple access networks. Depending on the routing protocol, a node may not know over which of these access networks it is communicating. In this report, we propose a routing protocol-independent method that allows nodes to (i) determine when they are switching the acces...

HIMIPv6: An Efficient IP Mobility Management Protocol for Broadband Wireless Networks

With the increasing deployment of mobile devices and the advent of broadband wireless access systems such as WiBro, mWiMAX, and HSDPA, an efficient IP mobility management protocol becomes one of the most important technical issues for the successful deployment of the broadband wireless data networking service. IETF has proposed theMobile IPv6 as the basic mobility management protocol for IPv6 n...

Mobile flow-aware networks for mobility and QoS support in the IP-based wireless networks

As the volume of mobile traffic consisting of video, voice, and data is rapidly expanding, a challenge remains with the mobile transport network, which must deliver data traffic to mobile devices without degrading the service quality. Since every Internet service holds its own service quality requirements, the flow-aware traffic management in fine granularity has been widely investigated to gua...

An Efficient Fault-Tolerant Approach for Mobile IP in Wireless Systems

This paper presents the fault tolerance of Mobile IP in wireless systems. Mobile IP can support wireless users with continuous network connections while changing locations. It is achieved by allocating a number of mobility agents (foreign agents and home agents) in the architecture of a wireless system. If a failure occurs in a mobility agent, the wireless users located in the coverage area of ...
